Fent feina... a la KBS World Radio

Amb les noves obligacions que m'han sorgit (en forma de bebè peludet), he hagut de deixar temporalment de treballar entre setmana, malgrat que els dissabtes pel matí encara faig classes a un institut de batxillerat. Tot i així una de les feines que encara conservo és una de les meves preferides, la meva secció sobre Corea en un programa de la radio nacional (algo així com el que seria la RTVE d'allà), la KBS World Radio. Encara que la KBS té diverses emissores en coreà, una d'elles, la World Radio, emet en 12 idiomes. (perquè no; encara no parlo tant bé el coreà com per intervenir a la ràdio). De 24 hores que té un dia, se'n fan dos en cada idioma. Crec que hi ha rus, alemany, francès... una mica de tot. Aquesta emissora fa una doble funció: per una banda emet per tot el món i així la gent interessada en Corea pot escoltar-la sense haver d'aprendre coreà (un fi una mica promocional) i també d'altra banda els coreans que estudien aquell idioma la poden escoltar per aprendre.

En el meu cas treballo com a part-time al departament d'espanyol. Em va perfecte perquè puc anar a gravar el dia que em vagi bé (sempre acabo demanant favors a algú perquè em cuidi la nena), faig quatre programes de cop (ahà, no és en directe!) i després me'n torno a casa tan feliç. La meva cap és una noia coreana jove i molt agradable que parla castellà perfectament. Com veieu per a mi és una feineta perfecta però crec que ella rep molt més estrès del que deixa veure, perquè ja se sap, això és Corea.

La seu de la KBS, que vol dir Korea Broadcast System, està a la illa de Yeouido (여의도, que es llegeix yò-i-dó en català). Aquesta illa és com Manhattan, una illa dins del riu Han. Es veu que fa unes quantes dècades era un lloc que no volia ningú perquè era una illa on només hi havia sorra (suposo que dels sediments del riu) però quan Corea va experimentar el boom econòmic es va tornar el lloc amb més gratacels i amb més empreses importants de tot Seül, cosa que ja és dir perquè tota la ciutat està plagada d'empreses gegants. Als coreans els agrada dir que és el Wall Street de Corea, i no van desencaminats.

Encara que aquí no us sembli exactament una illa, és perquè hi ha una carretera construïda que enganxa la riba esquerra. En el mapa de Seül queda així:

Allò que veieu a dins del requadre amb un 63 és l'edifici 63, el que era fins fa poc el més alt de Seül. Ara estan acabant un edifici molt més alt a Jamshil, ja hi dedicarem un post un altre dia perquè és realment impressionant. A la foto de més a dalt també es pot veure l'edifici 63. 

Acabades les presentacions de Yeoido  i la KBS... parlem del que interessa, el meu programa! (Yo he venido a hablar de mi libro!!). Més que un programa és una secció setmanal, dedicada a una de les meves especialitats: la divulgació de la vida coreana. Realment quan em van proposar fer-lo, vaig pensar que m'anava com anell al dit: una feina on em passo l'estona parlant del que m'agrada, explicant les meves historietes i a sobre pagada... és el paradís. (Però no us penseu que paguen tant tampoc eh?). 

Es diu "Corea en 5 minutos", i la veritat és que a base de fer aquest programa estic aprenent molt. També m'obliga a fixar-me en més coses cada vegada que surto al carrer (per allò de que les coses s'han d'explicar com si els oients no sabessin res de Corea, cosa que de fet és bastant comú). De fet com que la ràdio es dedica a la divulgació de Corea en general hi ha tot tipus de programes que val la pena escoltar si esteu interessats en el tema. Us deixo el link aquí:

Com que el meu programa és curtet està englobat dins del "Buzón de radio escucha". Els últims 8 minuts de programa són el meu, així que simplement cliqueu per allà el minut 17 i pico. 

Com que ja porto més d'un any fent-lo ja hi ha més de 50 programes! Estan tots allà posats així que que si es van clicant tots els dissabtes des del 2016 es poden escoltar. Al principi no em volia escoltar  a mi mateixa perquè em feia vergonya i es veu que corria massa així que la meva cap em va haver de cridar l'atenció (em vaig prendre maaaassa literalment això de "Corea en 5 minutos" fins que em van dir que si en durava 8 tampoc passava res però que per favor baixés la velocitat!). 

La veritat és que sempre estic pensant temes per al programa i quan quedo amb coreans sempre els interrogo sobre quin tema pensen que seria bo per al programa. A vegades m'han donat bones idees però d'altres parlant parlant ens hem adonat de que les nostres cultures no són tant diferents. Per exemple quan parlàvem del respecte a la gent gran. Em posaven tot d'exemples que no disten ni molt menys de com tractem nosaltres als nostres avis, així que vam concloure que encara que ells tinguin el respecte molt interioritzat amb una sèrie de "normes" no escrites, nosaltres al cap i a la fi fem el mateix però sense donar-li tanta pompa. Per suposat el meu marit també és de gran ajuda i sempre li pregunto "Què me'n pots dir de...?" i sempre em dóna bones idees! També vaig absorbint el que veig pel carrer, el que sento pel metro, el que llegeixo pel carrer i veig per la tele... una mica de tot. (Per cert si algú té alguna idea... ja sabeu eh?).

Com que és una ràdio pública en general he de centrar-me en les coses positives del país però intento també explicar les negatives. L'únic problema el vaig tenir el dia que vaig fer el problema dedicat a la cirurgia plàstica...hehehe és un tema que em preocupa com ja sabeu. Em van cridar l'atenció dient que no és que no pogués dir coses negatives o la meva opinió però que havia de ser més imparcial. Però com que la meva cap és un àngel m'ho va dir amb tanta discreció que quasi no em vaig enterar de que m'estava "fotent la bronca". Cal dir que el que seria més comú en moltes empreses seria que el jefe directament et cridés al despatx i t'esbronqués a crits... Tinc sort (--').

I el millor de tot és que és una feina que m'encanta i em treu de la rutina^^ (encara que la meva rutina de rutina no en té gaire perquè em passo el dia voltant-la faci fred o calor). Espero poder-la seguir fent durant molt de temps, però com que tot té caducitat ja estic pensant una nova secció per al futur. (Per si decàs, perquè aquí a Corea les coses fan girs radicals de 180º d'un dia per l'altre i mai se sap...).

Professió del sXXI: Jugador professional de videojocs // A new job for the XXI century: professional video-gamer

Amb l'arribada de les tecnologies digitals i les grans indústries, molts oficis s'estan perdent, és un fet. Fa pocs anys tots ens pensavem que els fotògrafs s'extingirien per culpa de les càmeres digitals, encara que per sort no ha sigut així. No hi va haver tanta sort amb oficis com cisteller, soguer, espardenyer... Però tal com deia Darwin, la supervivència es basa en trobar la millor adaptació a l'entorn. Amb un nou entorn, noves adaptacions apareixen cada vegada. I tot just començant el segle, una nova professió va començar a extendre's per Corea: el jugador de videojocs professional!

With the arrival of the digital tecnologies and huge industries, it's a fact that many professions became out-dated. Few years ago we thought the photographers would become extinct due to digital cameras, but luckily it was not this way. But it was not the same for traditional professions such as shoemaker, potter, woodcutter... But like Darwin said, the survival consits in having the best adaptation to the enviroment. With new enviroments, new adaptations flourish. And just in the begining of the century, a new profession spreat around Korea: the professional video-gamer! 

Efectivament! Per als que us imaginaveu a un pringat ple de grans sense cap amic al món real, anaveu ben equivocats. Els jugadors professionals (en aquest cas a la foto, un equip) reben un molt bon sou, i participen en competicions nacionals i internacionals. Com veieu vesteixen uniforme perquè estan esponsoritzats per grans companyies. 

Yes indeed! For those of you who imagined a fat boy full of pimples and with no friends (at least in the real world), you were definetly wrong. The professional video-gamers (in the photo we can see a team) earn a lot of money, and take part in national and international competitions. As you can see they are wearing an uniform, because big companies sponsor them.

 Fans boges que volien parlar amb ells! Sembla que era l'anivesari d'un d'ells, així que totes les fans (...) li estaven donant regalets. La noia de l'esquerra estava molt nerviosa i no parava de ventar-se amb la mà.

Però no: aquests jugadors no es passegen tranquil·lament pel carrer. Ho confesso: vaig anar expressament a veure'ls jugar. Aquí a Corea, anar a veure jocs de videojocs professionals és el mateix que anar a veure jugar un partit de futbol o de bàsquet d'un equip de primera divisió. 

But I didn't meet them coincidently in the street... I confess it: I went there on purpose to watch them play. In Korea, going to watch a match between professional gamers is like going to see a professional soccer match of the premiere league.

Us esteu preguntant quina pinta pot tenir un Estadi d'Esports Electrònics? Doneu-hi un cop d'ull!

Are you wondering how it looks like an e-Sports Stadium? Just take a look!

 Exactament igual que un plató de televisió, veritat? Això és perquè a Corea hi ha un canal dedicat exclusivament als esports electrònics. La competició que vaig anar a veure ahir estava essent retransmitida en directe per aquell canal.

It looks exactly the same with a TV set right? This is because in Korea there's a TV channel dedicated to e-sports. The match I watch yesterday was being broadcasted to that channel.

 Aquí tenim els jugadors a la seva cabina (la sala blava) , preparats per jugar, cada un amb la seva pantalla i cascos.

Però el show no s'acaba aquí: durant la competició hi ha tres locutors que van comentant les jugades, amb sistema de megafonia inclòs. La pantalla gran que es veu sobre els locutors reals mostra el que està sortint per la televisió en aquell moment. Els dos nois que veieu a la dreta, més rossets, són els comentaristes en anglès (als quals no pots sentir si estàs a l'estadi), perquè també es transmet internacionalment! (No m'ha semblat veure-ho anunciat a TV3 encara, però tot arribarà no?)

But that's not all: during the match there are three announcers commenting what's happening on the TV at that moment. The big screen above them shows what's being broadcasted at that moment. The blond guys on the right side are the english speaker announcers (but if you are in the stadium you can't hear them) because the match is broadcasted internationally too! (I think we still don't have this in Catalan TV, but let's just wait for a while...).

És el joc que està més de moda actualment a Corea, i es diu League of Legends (Lliga de les llegendes). Per resumir-ho direm que és una batalla entre dos equips, que s'han de matar mútuament per destruir la base enemiga. Ja us avanço que hi ha una autèntica falera a tot el país i a tota Àsia per jugar-hi!

This is the most famous game these days in Korea, and it's called League of Legends. To summarize we can say it's a battle between two teams, who have to kill the other team in order to destroy their base. People are crazy about it, and I think every boy in Asia plays this game!

Crec que puc endevinar el que molts de vosaltres estareu pensant: que friquis que són aquests asiàtics, que es dediquen a jugar a maquinetes tot el dia enlloc de sortir al carrer a jugar a alguna cosa real. Suposo que en part teniu raó, però en la meva opinió simplement hem d'entendre tot aquest fenomen dels esports electrònics com una nova professió i un nou mercat on fer negocis, no tant diferent del mercat d'esportistes professionals. Em podreu dir que fer esport és més sa, i hi estaré d'acord, però tampoc crec que gaires esports siguin sans a nivell professional (lesions, dopatges, massa esforç físic...això no és salut). Està clar que pels nens és més desitjable que surtin al carrer, corrin amb els amics... però com han de sortir al carrer si només que hi ha cotxes i contaminació? No crec que ningú pugui culpar a la gent que prefereix passar la tarda jugant dins de casa enlloc de sortir a respirar benzina. 

Maybe I can guess what some of you are thinking about: these asians are a bunch of freaks, who spend all their time playing videogames instead of going outside to play something real. Of course you are right in some respect, but in my opinion we have to understand this new phenomenon as a new profession and a new business market, not so different from the real-sports market. You could say practising sports is healthier, and I agree, but few sports are healthy in a professional level (injuries, doping, over-effort...that's not healthy). Of course it's better for kids to go outside, to run with friends but... exactly how are they going to go to the street with all that cars and pollution everywhere? I don't think we can put the blame on the people who preffer staying inside home instead of going outside to breath fuel.

Aquí a Corea aquest joc és una nova manera de socialitzar-se, ja que és un esport d'equip, i els amics van a jugar-hi plegats als cibercafès, i després comenten la jugada tots junts. La majoria de la gent no s'està a casa tancada jugant-hi, sinó que el joc forma part d'un dels seus hobbies, un que comparteixen amb els seus amics reals. Suposo que els jugadors professionals s'hi hauran passat moooltes hores, però està clar que tots els nostres nens que volen ser futbolistes també s'hi han passat moooooltes hores. Amb això vull dir que penso que és una professió com qualsevol altra: si vols estar a la cima has de fer algun tipus de sacrifici. 

In Korea this game is a new way of socialising, because it's a team game, and people go to computer cafés to play together with their friends. The majority of the people are not playing this alone at home. This is just part of their hobbies that their share with real friends. Of course professional players had spent tons of hours practising but...I think professional soccer players must have spent tons of hours playing soccer too. My point is that to be a professional in any field it takes always a great sacrifice.

La veritat és que anar a l'estadi m'ha agradat i crec que hi tornaré. En aquest cas és una de les partides de la lliga, però quan hi ha la final entre els dos millors equips es fa en un palau d'esports amb milers de persones (llavors sí que s'ha de pagar entrada...aquest dia era gratis!). To tell the truth I enjoyed going to watch a match, and maybe I will return soon. Yesterday was just a regular match of the league, but when the final comes, thousands of people gather together in a real sports stadium, where they play (but then the ticket is not free like today!!). Benvinguts a l'any de la serp: l'horòscop xinès // Welcome to the snake's year!

Suposo que ja us n'haureu assabentat: estem oficialment a l'any de la serp! I no és que aquest any hagi tocat aquest animal a l'atzar, sinó que se segueix l'horòscop xinès (en xinès 生肖 Està clar no?). Aquest no es basa en les constel·lacions com el nostre, sinó en anys lunars. Hi ha 12 animals que es van succeïnt (alguns normals com gos o conill, però d'altres més divertits com drac o porc), i així com l'últim any de la serp va ser el 2001, ara ho torna a ser, 12 anys després. Així que depenent de l'any en que vau nèixer sereu un símbol o un altre. Que quin símbol sou? Mireu el següent gràfic i ho sabreu!

I guess you already heard: we officially entered in the year of the snake! And it's not just coincidence, it's because we are talking about the chinese horoscope (in chinese 生肖 Very clear, right?). It doesn't use the stars as a reference, but follows the lunar years. There are 12 animals that keep succeeding each other (there are normal animals like the dog or the rabbit, but also funnier ones like the pork or the dragon) every lunar year. The last year of the snake was in 2001, so after 12 years we are in the year of the snake again. Your symbol depends on the year you were born in. You wanna know which simbol you are? Com tots els horòscops, es basa en atribuïr qualitats a les persones i al seu futur depenent del seu símbol. Per fer-ne un petit resum:

Llegint el meu bloc potser us heu preguntat alguna vegada "els coreans, tant que estudien, saben tan poc d'Espanya com els espanyols sabem de Corea?". Demano disculpes als que tinguin més cultura que jo, però la veritat és que quan vaig conèixer al meu primer coreà fa un any i mig, jo de corea no sabia res, apart de que n'hi havia dos i que estaven barallades. I és que Corea, almenys culturalment, queda eclipsada per les dues altres potències asiàtiques, la Xina i Japó. Però d'això no és el que tracta el meu post d'avui (perquè com ja sabeu, no és un bloc profund...quan porti un temps aquí hauré adquirit la profunditat dels asiàtics i llavors tots els meus posts seran reflexius, i les visites al bloc cauran en picat de lo avorrit que serà). Ehem... com anava dient, que creieu que saben els coreans sobre Espanya? I encara més interessant...què creieu que saben sobre Catalunya?
While reading my blog perhaps a question popped up into your heads "Do koreans know about my country as much as I know about korea? (which in Spain would mean literally they know nothing). I beg pardon to those of you who are more educated than I am, but when I met my first korean one year and half ago I knew nothing about korea: only that there are two countries and they fought. For people like me, Korea remained hidden behind Japan and China, at least speaking about culture. But this is not what today's post it's about, because as you know this is not a deep blog (after a year living here I will have acquired the profundity of the asian, and then all my posts will be sensible and thoughtful, and any of my Spanish friends will read it anymore).

Bé, primer de tot comentar que sobre Catalunya com a nació en saben ben poc. Només aquells que han conegut catalans o que han viatjat a Barcelona han sentit a parlar del nostre sentiment nacional, o si més no, de que hi ha alguna cosa diferent en aquella zona i que parlem un idioma diferent. Però no us preocupeu perquè aquí estic jo per anar atabalant a la gent explicant aquest tipus de coses. Per això en aquest post en dedicaré a parlar sobre què saben els coreans d'Espanya, perquè realment sobre Catalunya poc hi ha. Però si alguna cosa coneixen tots sense excepció, sobretot els nois és...
First of all I would like to talk about what korean know about my nation Catalonia, which is almost nothing. Only those who had come to Barcelona for vacation or met a Catalan heard about what's going on my country. But don't worry, maybe you already experienced how annoying a Catalan can be when he's trying to explain about Catalonia, and so am I, so I will try to bother any korean who dare say I'm spanish. El futbol club Barcelona!! Ja ho veieu, la cosa és més internacional del que ens pensavem! Aquí a corea segueixen fervorosament la Champions i a tots els equips que hi participen, cosa que inclou sempre al Barcelona...i al Madrid. Sí nois, fins i tot aquí m'he hagut de barallar amb gent que prefereix al Madrid, i he de soportar jaquetes del Madrid per la universitat de tant en tant. A més estic totalment informada de l'actualitat futbolística a través de les notícies de la tele coreana, perquè cada cop que el Barça (i el Madrid...) juguen diuen el resultat a les notícies, encara que sigui en copa del rei. Però per sort encara no m'he trobat una cosa així pel carrer del Madrid:
Futbol club Barcelona! Of course, that's the most international thing we have! And this is the reason why the FC Barcelona museum is the most visited in Barcelona. Here in korea they follow fervently the Champions League and all the teams who play there, which includes all the most important European teams, like FC Barcelona and...Real Madrid. And if there's one thing FCB fans hate, that's real Madrid, for both political and futbolistic reasons (ok it's true, we hate losing and Madrid is the second best team...we can't help that. But they started first!). So even in my university I had to endure the view of Real Madrid jackets and t-shirts (yuks...). Even more, in TV they always say FCB (and Mdrid) results in league, so I'm always totally informed. And luckily I still haven't found this about Real Madrid... 

Jujuju això és en un carrer de Seül!!! Ja ho veieu, l'equipació complerta! Així que encara que els coreans no en siguin conscients, saben alguna cosa sobre Catalunya...encara que sigui sobre futbol.
Yes yeeess that's Seoul and that's FCB equipation for 2012-13 season! So eventhough koreans don't realise, they already know something about Catalonia.

In korea in High School (where life is not like in the american musical) they study 17 subjects. With this amount of information to retain and regarding that one of this subjects is history of the world it's not strange they learned something about Spain. One day I was trying to remember the independance war (spain vs france) to tell to my boyfriend how it went but it turned out to be that was him who told me about that war. (No comments please)

I gràcies a aquesta cultura tan impressionant que tenen, crec que més de la meitat dels coreans s'han llegit "El Quijote". Però tots saben el que és. Fa poc van estrenar un musical sobre el quijote, estava anunciat per tot arreu al metro. També m'he trobat la versió traduïda al coreà a les llibreries.
And also because of that, I think that half of Korea had read our most famous book ever "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha" or simply "Don Quixote" (for more information click here). But at least everyone here knows what this book written by Cervantes in the XVII century is. Last month they performed for the first time the musical "Don Quixote" in Seoul. I also found the translated version of Don Quixote in the bookstores.

 And two weeks ago, in a very famous TV program they aired the video I posted below the next lines: 

Exercici 1: (ara m'ha sortit la vena pedagògica que voleu que us digui): intenteu entendre les paraules "Don Quijote", "Sancho" "No Garcia" "Señorita"). I si enteneu algo més, escribiu-ho a comentaris...jo encara li estic intentant treure l'entrellat!
Exercice 1: (Did you know I am a teacher? Well, it seems I miss being one, let me be it again for a while): try to understand the Spanish words in this song "Don Quijote", "Sancho", "No Garcia" and "Señorita". The first two words are the names of the main characters of the novel, Garcia is the most common family name in Spain and Señorita means lady. And if you understand some other word please write on commentaries, I'm still trying to find out more!
Exercici 2:  Comenceu a mirar el video al 5'02 més o menys. He intentat posar el video des d'allà però sembla que alguna cosa ha fallat. Siusplau aguanteu/mireu/salteu directament fins al 6'16!!! Ja voreu...
Us he posat una mica aquest home que canta uns segons al principi perquè li veieu bé la cara...

Solucions:
Exercici 1: Efectivament!! La cançó parla sobre Don Quijote, que diu que ho faria tot per a la bella dona a la qual estima, que aniria fins la fi del món...etc. Però...No garcia??? Perquè?? Doncs el cantant diu a la cançó que el seu nom és Don Quijote No García, i és que el seu nom (el del cantant, que no és un cantant sinó un showman) en veritat és No Hong-Cheol, així que mira ho han apanyat prou bé!
Answer:
Exercice 1: The song talks about Don Quixote indeed! He says he would do anything for the beautiful woman he loves (the novel is about that), he would go until the end of the world...but...No garcia? Why? Well, just because as you know in Spain we all have two family names: or father's fist family name and our mother's first one. And the family name of this singer is No, so this skilled singer (who is not a singer but a showman) decided to call himself "Don Quijote No Garcia". 


Exercici 2: Per a la solució siusplau mireu aquest altre vídeo (sí, és el Gangnam style, però l'heu de mirar just en el moment en què vull que el mireu 1'56!!! , només 3 segons vaaa!!):

Efectivament!!!(Part 2) És el mateix zumbat!!!! Ja us vaig dir que tots els que sortien al video eren molt i molt famosos a Corea! Aquest home en concret es fa dir Crazy Boy, i la veritat és que tot el que he vist d'ell fins ara m'ha portat a pensar que està boig de veritat... però és molt divertit. I com ja haureu deduït el seu segell personal és aquesta...mmm...dansa? (des d'aquí demano disculpes a Nacho Duato, el ballet Rus...)(no sé més noms de ballarins...) que la gent aquí a Corea ja coneix molt bé.
Yeeeeah it's him! The very same hectic man!! I told you all the people who appeared in Gangnam style video were very famous in Korea. He calls himself Crazy boy (I can't understand why...(--')) and actually all the videos about him that I saw made me really think he is crazy, but also so funny! As you could have guessed his personal signature is that... dance?? (I would like to appologize to the Russian Ballet for this particular use of the word "dance" and to all the community of dancers) that koreans know very well. 

Aquesta cançó ve d'un programa anomenat Infinite Challenge (desfiament infinit) en el que els humoristes que hi surten es dediquen a rebre desafiaments i a dur-los a terme. La veritat és que és molt divertit i té molt d'èxit a Corea, i porta diversos anys en antena. Suposo que per la gent que entenen el que diuen deu ser tronxante. En el mateix programa hi va haver una altra cançó que va destacar molt i que vull que escolteu, perquè és un dels nous hits a Corea, quasi diria el successor de Gangnam style! Mireu des del 4'20!
This song comes from a TV program called Infinite Challenge where the showmen who appear there take new challenges every program. It's very funny and very succesful in Korea. I guess that if you understand what they are saying then it must be hilarious. In the same program where crazy boy performed there was another song I want you to listen to, because it's one of the new hits in Korea, almost the successor of Gangnam Style! Watch from 4'20!

Quan dic que és la successora vull dir que realment se sent per tot arreu. Caminant pel carrer la pots sentir perquè a les botigues la posen (aquí a corea sembla que és legal que les botigues posin música a tot volum per ¿atraure? als clients), per la radio i per la tele. Però no només aquesta, sinó que la cançó de No García també és molt famosa. Aquesta segona cançó s'anomena "Gangbuk Dandy" i evidentment està parodiant a Gangnam Style. Si recordeu, Gang vol dir riu, i Nam volia dir Sud (per dubtes consulteu aquest Post Gangnam Style). En aquest cas Gang és riu, i Buk vol dir Nord. Així que si Psy és el gentelman descontrolat del Sud del riu, aquí tenim el Dandy del Nord del Riu.
You can listen to this song anywhere. Walking on the street you can hear it comming from the shops (it seems is legal in Korea for shops to put loud music for ¿attracting? clients), in the radio, in TV...  And not only this song but "No Garcia"'s song is also very famous. This second song is called "GangBuk Dandy" and it obviously parodies Gangnam Style. If you remember (for doubts check my Post about Gangnam Style) Gang means river, Nam means south. In this case, Gang is river again, and buk means north. So if Psy was the hectic gentelman of south of the river, here we have the Dandy of the North Part.

Com debeu haver endevinat el desafiament de l'anterior programa consistia en que cada un dels humoristes que hi surten representés una cançó. I totes les va compondre aquest home que enfoquen de tant en tant i que s'ho mira de lluny. La veritat és que si us les escolteu un parell de cops veureu que no tenen res a envejar a qualsevol altre cançó xorra del moment, i aquest fet ha creat una veritable polèmica a Corea: la discusió és si els escriptors de cançons han de cobrar tant pel fet de crear cançons tontetes com aquestes, perquè després de veure que un humorista n'ha fet tantes i tant bones de cop, sembla ser que s'haurien de renegociar els salaris.
As you must figured out in the last program of Infinte Challenge the challenge was performing a song, so all the showmen performed one. And all of them were created by the man who appears from time to time in the videos sitting far away from the stage. And actually, if you listen these songs a couple of times you will realise that they have nothing to envy to other stupid pop songs, and koreans also realised about this. The issue in Korea these days is whether the song writters should earn that much money for creating silly songs, when this man alone had created a bunch of songs out of nothing, and pretty good songs indeed.

Però tornem al tema que ens ocupa. Què més sap sobre Espanya el coreà mig? No us sorprendrà saber que la resta són els típics tòpics que ja sabeu. Em sap greu dir que aquí, com a tot arreu, quan senten la paraula Espanya el primer que els ve al cap és el futbol, però el segon són els toros. Sí nois, jo ja he deixat ben clar que d'això no en vull saber res, però malauradament no puc parlar amb tots els habitants de Seül per explicar que els catalans això no ho volem veure ni de lluny. I amb això comença la desfilada oficial de tòpics que tothom té dels Espanyols: que dormen la "Siesta" cada dia al migdia (qui em va dir que al migdia a Espanya les oficines tanquen perquè s'ha de fer la sieta??), que es passen el dia ballant flamenco, que al país hi toca molt el Sol... 
But let's keep talking about today's topic. What else does the average korean know about Spain? You will not be surprised to know that they know all the clichés I'm sure you are also familiar with too. As a Catalan (and as a human being who doesn't like torturing animals) I'm sad to say that when koreans think about Spain they think about soccer, but after that they think about Bullfighting. Everytime I met someone new I realised they believe all spanish like bullfighting, so I have to make clear that catalans hate that and that bullfighting is prohibited in Catalunya. But don't worry, for me breaking topics is a pleasure :) . And after bullfighting, the other clichés: that we do siesta (midday nap) (who does this?? I would like to do it...just for trying...someday...?) everyday, that we all dance flamenco, that in our country we have very nice sunshine... (and this last one is true indeed...I miss my sunlight!!). But it's ok, because all clichés come from something. Of course it's parcially true, since those are things that are done somewhere in Spain, but it's just the commercial image they sold about Spain, like the tourist-sellers did in any other country.


I si algun lloc és sempre el punt de trobada de tots els tòpics és sempre un parc d'atraccions. Ara que visc envoltada de xinesos (a classe de coreà), puc confirmar que Port Aventura no té la veritat absoluta sobre els xinesos, encara que en alguns casos s'hi queda aprop. Així que quan ahir vaig anar al parc d'atraccions Lotte World i vaig veure això
But if I had to think about one place where all the clichés always meet, I would surely say an amusement park. In Catalunya we have our beloved Universal Port aventura, with very exotic parts such as China, Polynesia, Far West, Mexico and Mediterranean sea. Everytime I go there I think it's very nice and different. It looks so exotic! So maybe I shouldn't have been so surprised when I went to the amusement park in Seoul, Lotte World, and I found this:

Em vaig quedar ben sorpresa. Si ho mires des de fora és lògic que si nosaltres pensem que els orientals són exòtics ells pensin el mateix de nosaltres però...que havia de dir que una part d'un parc d'atraccions estaria dedicada a Espanya? Els noms de les botigues són en castellà (la paloma, casa marcos, don Quixote...) i els edificis tenen una certa semblança amb barris de poble de fa uns 100 anys així que l'ambientació està força aconseguida. Però en els restaurants el menjar segueix sent coreà hehe, de paella res de res. Per la resta, bàsicament banderetes per tot arreu i para de comptar. Però la part realment impressionant era la que conduïa cap a fora, on podies contemplar:
But I was so surprised. Of course it's very logic: if I think korea is exotic, maybe koreans could think Spain is exotic. But not even in my dreams I would have thought that Spain could be main topic for a part in an amusement park. The names of the shops are in Spanish (La paloma= the pigeon, Casa Marcos (Marco's house), Don Quixote (Of course)...) and the buildings resemble a lot to some spanish houses of the early 20th century, so it's quite nice. Sad to say that the food it's not spanish but korean. Besides, it's full of Spanish flags everywhere. But the impressive part comes when you try to go out, where you could find a quite nice reproduction of the mosque of Córdoba and the lions' fountain of the Alhambra of Granada (in one of its versions, because every year they discover that someone had put a new piece in the fountain at some moment of the history, and they remove, so it's like a chameleon fountain).

Una representació de la mesquita de Córdova i del que crec que és la Font dels Lleons de l'Alhambra de Granada! (en una de les seves múltiples versions, perquè cada any descobreixen que algú hi havia afegit una peça nova i la treuen).

Us parlaré més sobre Lotte World en el proper post (encara hi ha sorpreses), però al tornar a casa ahir vaig sentir la necessitat imperiosa de modificar aquest post per incloure-hi el que havia descobert. 
I will talk more about Lotte World in the next post (there's more), but it happened that when I returned yesterday from there I surrended to the need of changing this post to include what I discovered.

Respecte al menjar, si han viatjat cap allà, alguna cosa saben sobre Paella i Sangria, però en general no saben res de la nostra gastronomia. Hi ha uns tres restaurants de cuina espanyola a Seül, però encara no n'he provat cap. Us mantindré informats perquè vaig rebre notícies que la sogra hi volia anar algun dia...ehem... a veure si s'estira... (i aquesta part no la traduïré a l'anglès per fer una mica de censura i que certa persona no l'entengui).
About Spanish food koreans don't really know a lot. If they travelled they know of course paella and sangria (mandatory food for tourists in Spain), but just that. There are three Spanish cuisine restaurants in Seoul, but I still haven't gone to any of them. I will keep you informed if someday I have the opportunity to go there. 

Sobre el castellà, hi ha algunes acadèmies que l'ensenyen, però encara són poques. Tot i això, i gràcies a que el castellà és un dels idiomes més parlats del món, alguns pares visionaris comencen a apuntar els seus fills a classes de castellà, fixant-se sobretot en el mercat sudamericà. Sobre el català no n'han sentit a parlar...
About spanish language, some hakwons (academies) teach it, but still too few. Some visionary parents list their kids to Spanish academy regarding the huge south american market. About catalan...well it's quite depressing but they don't know about it.

En conclusió: no patiu si no sabieu gran cosa sobre Corea, perquè ells tampoc saben res sobre Catalunya, i poc sobre Espanya. Així que no em sentiré culpable, sinó que em dedicaré a seguir aprenent coses poc a poc i intentant compartir-les amb vosaltres a través del bloc.

My conclusion is: don't worry if you don't know a lot about Korea, because neither do they about Spain or Catalunya. Ui... something went wrong... this was my conclusion for Catalan readers...! lLet me rephrace it! My (other) conclusion is: because and Spain and Korea haven't had a lot of contact through history, we don't know about each other. But I hope this will be soon changed, because now it's pretty easy to learn via internet. From this blog I will keep trying to show some of the news I keep finding, so we can learn them together. This is a very interesting country, full of contrasts, and I'm really looking forward learning about everything surrounding me.
